Impact of sample teaching units

About the school

Paul Lord (Head of ICT Department) and Mark Capaldi (2nd in ICT Department) describe the impact of the ICT sample teaching units in Bolton at the Sharples School.

About the School

Sharples School is an 11 – 16 mixed comprehensive school, located in Astley Bridge, Bolton.  The school has 1018 pupils on roll and opened a purpose built ICT Centre in Summer 2000.  The school is presently seeking Science Specialist College status.  The ICT Department is built up from a large team of teachers from many areas of the curriculum who share the responsibility for teaching ICT as a discrete subject at Key Stage 3.

Links Between ICT Strand with School Priorities

The teaching and learning styles advocated within the KS3 sample teaching units, along with the lesson structures, match those being advocated in other areas of the curriculum.  This makes the developments in ICT sit comfortably with the whole school objectives.
