Year 9 lunchtime mathematics Booster classes
How the Year 9 booster programme linked with our school’s priorities and agenda
Pete Nicholls, Key Stage 3 mathematics coordinator at Crown Woods School in Greenwich, describes the benefits felt by pupils and teachers from participation in last year’s Year 9 booster programme.
Crown Woods School is a mixed 11–18 comprehensive in Greenwich LEA. Our Year 9 cohort consists of 340 pupils.
Throughout the summer and autumn terms in 2000 we concentrated on modifying our curricular planning in line with the advice offered by the Key Stage 3 National Strategy. With guidance from Greenwich LEA we developed our scheme of work to cover the yearly teaching programmes in the Framework for teaching mathematics: Years 7, 8 and 9.
By January 2001 we had identified those Year 9 students on the borderline of level 4 to 5 in mathematics as a key departmental priority.
