Transition activity in science using data loggers

About the schools

Theresa Philips, science consultant, describes how a transition activity was developed and implemented, and how it made a difference.

The transition activity was developed by two Advanced Skills Teachers (ASTs) working in West Kent, part of Kent LEA. It was developed during Spring 2001, and carried out in five primary schools during the summer term and in five secondary schools during the autumn term.

Primary Schools involved:

  • Langton Green, Kent
  • St Matthew’s, Tunbridge Wells
  • St John’s, Tunbridge Wells
  • St James’ Tunbridge Wells
  • Edenbridge, Kent

Secondary Schools involved:

  • The Skinners’ School, Tunbridge Wells
  • Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Girls
  • The Bennett Memorial School
  • Tunbridge Wells High School
  • Eden Valley School

Project leaders involved:

Theresa Phillips. At that time, Theresa was an AST and head of Biology at The Skinners’ School and is now a Key Stage 3 science consultant for East Sussex.

Graham Bray. At that time, Graham was an AST and head of science at Hugh Christie Technology College and is now Head of the Faculty of Science and Technology at The Weald of Kent Grammar School for Girls, Tonbridge.
