Guidance on preventing underachievement

'A tailored education means addressing the needs of the most gifted and talented, just as much as those who are struggling...'
(2005 White Paper, Higher Standards, Better Schools for All, paragraph 4.21)

The National Strategies' gifted and talented programme sets as a priority the need to tackle underachievement, especially among pupils from vulnerable groups or at risk as a consequence of social disadvantage, and those children who may be working above national expectations, but still underachieving.

Guidance is provided here in a series of booklets addressing support and provision for gifted and talented pupils who are either underachieving or at risk of underachieving.
