Consultation on the Classroom Quality Standards for gifted and talented education
Classroom Quality Standards
The focus of the Classroom Quality Standards (CQS) is a deeper exploration of Element 2 of the Institutional Quality Standards (IQS): Effective provision in the classroom.
The CQS supports teachers in reflecting on their practice, evaluating the quality of provision and level of challenge on a day-to-day basis and in deciding on appropriate ways to improve classroom provision.
Layer 1 of the generic tool should be the starting point for this and teachers are likely to find the CQS tool most effective if it is used in collaboration with colleagues.
Layer 2 of the generic tool provides a more detailed view of each CQS feature in terms of Entry, Developing and Exemplary levels practice, and amplifies these features specifically in relation to gifted and talented learners.
- Generic CQS
The consultation seeks to gain feedback from schools and settings that have used the generic CQS, on what aspects of the tools work well and/or how they might be improved.
- CQS subject-specific amplification
These tools provide illustrations of the Layer 2 Features and Prompts in the context of the core subjects and ICT at each self-evaluation level.
Teachers and practitioners are being asked to build on their experience of using the generic CQS and use the subject-specific amplification statements provided to explore their usefulness in the context of English, mathematics, science and ICT.
Note: If you are not already very familiar with the CQS and how to use it effectively you are advised to visit Generic CQS before moving on to CQS subject-specific amplification.
