Improving teaching and learning Shakespeare in KS3: a model of effective consultancy
Overview
This ten day implementation programme will help consultants to structure support for a department who – year on year – achieve disappointing results in their KS 3 Shakespeare papers. It involves:
- reviewing the current provision;
- seeking to develop the department leader's vision for improving performance;
- departmental discussions to secure understanding of expectations and criteria for success;
- developing departmental vision for improvement;
- department training and workshop sessions to share and develop active engagement strategies;
- departmental meetings to adapt/rewrite plans for teaching Shakespeare;
- joint observation, classroom support and co-teaching with SL and/or consultant;
- peer coaching and/or team teaching;
- interim review and further planning;
- a final review that leaves the department with a clear vision of continuing improvement.
