Improving teaching and learning Shakespeare in KS3: a model of effective consultancy

Overview

This ten day implementation programme will help consultants to structure support for a department who – year on year – achieve disappointing results in their KS 3 Shakespeare papers. It involves:

  • reviewing the current provision;
  • seeking to develop the department leader's vision for improving performance;
  • departmental discussions to secure understanding of expectations and criteria for success;
  • developing departmental vision for improvement;
  • department training and workshop sessions to share and develop active engagement strategies;
  • departmental meetings to adapt/rewrite plans for teaching Shakespeare;
  • joint observation, classroom support and co-teaching with SL and/or consultant;
  • peer coaching and/or team teaching;
  • interim review and further planning;
  • a final review that leaves the department with a clear vision of continuing improvement.
