Further interviews from The Globe's production of Much Ado About Nothing (relating to 2008 key scenes)
PLAYING SHAKESPEARE WITH DEUTSCHE BANK
Why does Beatrice demand that Benedick should kill Claudio? Why does Benedick agree to do it? Why does Hero agree to go along with the Friar’s plan? How does the Friar persuade Leonato to agree to his plan?
Listen to the actors playing the roles of Beatrice, Benedick, Hero and the Friar to hear how they developed their understanding of these characters as they prepared to perform them in the Globe’s production of Much Ado About Nothing. The actors provide insights into the two key scenes from the play that will be examined in May 2008, and listening to them will help students think about the themes, the characters and Shakespeare’s language, as well as letting them hear how the actors decided to perform the scenes. In addition, the director offers her thoughts on the social and historical context of the play and why it remains relevant to today’s audiences.
