Hard to teach concepts in English

The first activity undertaken by the project was to gather together in a report all the current evidence on the aspects of English which were considered to be the most problematic by Ofsted, QCA, SNS RAs and teachers, i.e. those areas which teachers found themselves having to revisit on numerous occasions throughout the key stage and which caused the most intractable barriers to progression. Further to this, pupils were asked what they felt were the aspects which were hardest to learn.

You can download the report at the bottom of this page.

As a consequence of their research, the pilot group identified the following concepts.

Clicking on the links will take you to an introductory page on each concept which sets out the issues in more detail, and will enable you to read case studies and teaching material generated by the project related to each concept.
