We have been doing a number of inclusion projects working with:
- MAST – Multi-agency support team working with pupils in danger of exclusion
- Alternative Provision KS3 – working with excluded pupils
- Alternative Provision KS4
- Primary Support Team – working with KS2 pupils alongside positive peer role-models
- ASCENT – Organisation supporting KS4 pupils on behalf of schools - Pupil Referral Units (PRU’s)
Two examples are:
- The Ascent group are a group of disaffected KS4 pupils who are coming in over a six week period, one day per week. During the morning they work with a specialised DJ tutor, who apart from being an incredible ‘scratch’ DJ also has wide experience of work in youth services. They work together developing DJ skills, and their level of engagement is excellent. During the afternoon they follow an entry level OCN course for computer skills, and they respond very well to the high level of support, the pleasant working environment, and the quality of output from our computer system. I am expecting them all to be accredited for their work.
- The Primary Support Team bring in pairs of pupils from different primary schools in the area – year 2 to year 5 for an afternoon per week over 4 weeks. The aim of the course is to develop skills of working together in a highly supervised environment where the chance of failure is minimised. The theme of the unit is ‘Aliens’, with a mixture of computer, camera and sound work, producing pictures and presentations with their own sound effects.
