Kirkby CLC, Knowsley, Literacy comes to life - SATs preparation

Year 9 Aimhigher

Kirkby City Learning Centre is working with Brookfield High School to support its Year 9 Aimhigher Literacy programme. Students from the school are taking part in an intensive programme using eLearning resources developed by the Centre to reinforce the main literacy concepts in preparation for SATs this year. The materials focus on spelling, writing styles and skills, story telling and non-fiction literacy development.

The resources have been developed with the 21st Century student in mind using examples that students can easily relate to, eg. a step by step guide to shooting a basketball hoop or manicuring nails. Students have to consider how the information in the text is organised, expressed and how the words are spelt, selected and presented.

The interactive resources developed for this project are currently available to all Knowsley schools via the Learning Place through the Centre's website – http://www.knowsleyclcs.org.uk - and will shortly be cascaded to all Kirkby Schools during forthcoming joint revision sessions.

Teacher comment: "Absolutely fantastic!"
