ICT Training for Connexions (Careers Education Business Partnership)

The staff of the CLC have, over the last two years, built up a very strong working relationship with Connexions.

Teachers from more than a dozen primary and nursery schools have visited the CLC, with Connexions, in order to receive training on the use of:

  • The use of digital cameras for still and moving images, and importing images into appropriate programmes
  • The use of MS Powerpoint to produce interactive books for the classroom
  • Use of the internet as a research tool.

The interactive books produced have featured various companies eg McDonalds and LDV Vans; this years major programme is with the West Midlands Fire Brigade.

The success of the teacher-training programme has lead to staff from Connexions also asking for the same training; this is a quote from a recent letter of thanks,

“We felt that yesterday really prepared us for making an Interactive Big Book and was also a thoroughly enjoyable learning process.”

This is a programme that is beneficial to all concerned, and we are told that the interactive books are amongst the most popular in the class rooms, even with reluctant readers. The books have just been put onto the BGfL and are therefore accessible to all Birmingham schools.
