Good Schools Working Together
Partnership/LEA Woking
Date of Study 24.01.06
Subject Showing that schools can work together to raise standards even at times of particular challenge and change in the local area.

Summary - This is an example of two good schools working together to raise standards, at a time of particular challenge and change in the local area.

Barnsbury Infant School and Goldsworth Primary School in Woking have agreed to work together to raise educational standards.  The partnership will provide leadership for both schools and opportunities for professional exchange and development.  Both schools were deemed to be very good schools in their latest Ofsted inspection reports and recognise that by working together they can build on existing good practice and continue to improve.

Following the resignation of Barnsbury’s head teacher to take up a post in a larger school in a neighbouring authority, and at a time of falling rolls in the primary sector in Woking, the governors of Barnsbury were seeking new leadership for the school.  They approached Goldsworth to form the Education Improvement Partnership so that established strong leadership could drive the continuing improvement in Foundation and Key Stage 1 in both schools.  Barnsbury Infant School has nationally recognised good practice in improving children’s speaking, listening and thinking skills through Philosophy and Talking Partners.  Goldsworth Primary School’s pupils achieve well above the average for similar schools and it has an excellent learning ethos.
