Evaluation of the Pupil Learning Credits Pilot Scheme

The Final Report of the Evaluation of the Pupil Learning Credits Pilot Scheme has been published simultaneously with this report on 24 November 2005.
Some of the key findings from the report were:

  • schools had deployed PLC resources across a wide range of activities and areas;
  • schools often extended pre-existing provision in order to improve the quality of the education provided, and meet the perceived needs of disadvantaged pupils;
  • while Year 9 pupils in schools receiving PLC funds reported participating in fewer types of extra-curricular activities than those in comparison schools, but showed more positive attitudes to school;
  • although on some measures pupils at schools in receipt of PLC funds made less progress than those at other schools, they were more likely to achieve five or more GCSE grades at A* to C.
